Intake overview

Why Do We Serve?

We serve and place extreme value on ALL people because Jesus has left us this example.
Jesus teaches us in the Gospels that leadership is servanthood. Jesus Himself did not come to be served, but to serve. In the same way, when you come to church, prepare your heart to serve those around you. In God’s Kingdom, the greatest are those who give of their time, talent and treasure to serve those around them. Every person matters to God and you have the opportunity to change the world, one life at a time. There is no replacement for sincere kindness exchanged from one person to another!

“I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”
- (Jesus) John 13:15

Getting Ready
1). Prepare your heart. Be prayed up and spiritually ready.
2). Be on site with enough time to set up your area and ensure all papers, books and resources are available for clients who need them.
Intake Process.

Step 1: Relationship
Say “Hey!” Welcome them and create relationship. Ask questions about them and sincerely care about their needs. Everybody needs a friend and life is better together.

Step 2: The Need
What's going on in their life that has brought them to this place? What's going on? How can we help? Figure out if the need is food, shelter, clothing, spiritual, or community, and everything else we refer.
Provide referrals to those that need it. Resource list is at the bottom of this document.

Step 3: Intake Form
Fill in the food hamper form on breeze.
a). Ensure they have a profile. If they don’t have a profile made briefly take the time to set up a basic profile with name, phone, and email.
b). check there ID and only provide food for the amount of people that they have provided ID for that live at the same address.

Step 4: Solutions
Meet the practical needs; by signing them up for resources we have to offer:
- three day hamper
- Housing - Victory housing referral
-Bus tickets
-Showers
- Community/Friendship - Invite to Church

Note - Let them know we aren't holding out on them, but that we share what we have. We have food, housing, friendship, church, clothing, and showers to offer. We don't have money so we cannot share what we don't have.

Referral;-  Please refer to:
1). Recommended Resources found at the bottom of this page.
2). Calgary street survival guide found in the intake portion of the app
3). Refer them to referral agencies like the Sorce (homelessness) or Aspen (families) or ph 211 to find other resources

Step 5: Pray
To close out the session, ask them if theres anything specific they would like prayer for, and if not, pray for the need they shared. Minister Love. The goal is for them to encounter God. This is the most important moment of the intake process. All food and outreach efforts lead up to this exact moment. Be prayed up and ready to minister the love and power of God.  Walk the client to the door and instruct them where to go to pick up there hamper.

Step 6: Notes
Finish off by updating the clients Profile, update profile case notes with current date and prayer requests/needs.

Update the date when they recieved there last hamper and all resources provided, including any phone numbers, or agencies you referred them to.

Step 7.
When you are ready for the next client go to the wait-room host they will call the next client in line.

Follow up & Slow time
When there is dead time or a slow moment please feel free to either follow up the people that you have had the best connections with Or go to the lunch room and create conversations and connections there . Please include in the profile case notes what follow ups you have made.

Wrap up
Clean up your station, put away books, flyers and other items where they belong. Ensure any sensitive and/or private information is properly stored in a safe place or thoroughly destroyed.
